NEW for 2016-17 - High School Bible Study Course!
Family Catechesis is pleased to announce the addition of a High School-level Bible Study course for the 2016-17 year. This group of 9th-12th graders will be using the Didache textbook Faith and Revelation, a wonderful text that covers many different topics. The text will be provided at no cost. To register in this course, please select "High School" for the student's age group on the Registration Form.

Details about the Program:
In the Fall of 2015, Saint Agnes restructured its Religious Education/CCD program and introduced a program of monthly Family Catechesis. Families meet on the second Wednesday of each month to learn about their faith and be prepared to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and Confirmation. This program is open to all parish families and is specifically targeted to those who wish to attend organized catechism classes, but are not enrolled in our parish school.

Family Catechesis Coordinator
Saint Agnes clergy teach the Family Catechesis classes. The organization and coordination duties are done by Mrs. Eileen Mueller. Her contact information is emueller@saintagnesschool.org and 651-925-8896.

Classes:
Children are separated into five separate sections/classes divided in the following ways.

Preschool (3-4)-Kindergarten: Participate in age-appropriate, faith-based activities

1st and 2nd grades: Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion using the New Saint Joseph First Communion Catechism. Preparation for First Communion will take place over two years. Please register your 1st graders in addition to your 2nd graders this year so that they can meet the preparation requirement.

3rd, 4th and 5th grades: Catechism classes using the New Saint Joseph Baltimore Catechism Book 1.

This 3-year cycle will follow the structure of the Catechism and consist of a year each on the Creed, the Commandments, and Sacraments and Prayer.

6th, 7th, and 8th grades: Preparation for Confirmation using the New Saint Joseph Baltimore Catechism Book 2

Preparation for Confirmation will take place over three years. Please register your 6th and 7th graders in addition to your 8th graders this year so that they can meet the preparation requirement. This 3-year cycle will follow the structure of the Catechism and consist of a year each on the Creed, the Commandments, and Sacraments and Prayer.

High School (9th-12th): Bible Study based on the Didache Textbook, Faith and Revelation.

Activites to Bring Home:
Families are assigned activities to work on at home each month between classes. These activities are designed to supplement the monthly instruction and activities at church. Part of each evening is devoted to reviewing those activities.

Class Attendance:
At least one parent is required to attend Family Catechesis with their children each month. This is NOT a drop-off program. The one exception to that rule is that the sponsor for a Confirmation student may attend classes with their Confirmandi in the place of a parent. Monthly attendance is mandatory since we are only meeting 9 times per year. Attendance is taken each evening. If there is a serious reason your family or student is missing class, please contact Eileen Mueller ahead of time to let her know.

Volunteers:
Parents who are available to volunteer to help manage each evening's activities are welcome to help. The pastor does not teach all three groups at once, so there are ample opportunities for parent or other volunteers to help out with enrichment activities for all the age levels. If you volunteer, you will receive a 50% discount on your tuition.
